Reflections of the Past
by Jody van der KwaakAfter being away for almost a month visiting family and old friends overseas, I came back to Canada carrying something difficult to describe.
Gratitude, beautiful memories, emotional exhaustion, homesickness, comfort, sadness. All at once.

For a few weeks, I was surrounded by people who have known me for most of my life. Shared history. Familiar streets. Conversations that didn't need explaining. Places connected to childhood memories and different versions of myself.

And then suddenly, it is over. You are back home, unpacking your suitcase, adjusting to the time difference, and trying to process the fact that those moments now only exist in memory.
Why Photography Matters to Me
Maybe that is one of the reasons why photography matters so much to me.
Not because life has to look perfect. Not because every moment needs to be documented. But because time moves quietly and relentlessly. People grow older. Dogs grow older. Families change. Life changes.

Photographs become anchors to moments that once felt ordinary, but later turn out to be deeply meaningful.

Since returning, I have been editing portraits I created during my trip, and while working on them, I realized again how much I care about preserving presence. The feeling of someone. The atmosphere of a moment. The meaningful details we never want to forget.

That, more than anything, is at the heart of why I do this work.
If you have people or moments worth keeping, that is exactly what I love to help you preserve. Whether it is a portrait of your family, your dog, or yourself, let's create something made to hold a moment for a very long time.
